I am Eileen Cole and I got my first bird pet when I was five years old. It was a budgie called Billy how lived through World War II when budgie seed cost £1.00 per lb I was told. After Billy died I didn’t have another bird until after I was married when I got a canary, but it was 1991 when I started breeding macaws. The first pair were blue and yellow macaws and later I bred red and greens, quickly followed by African Greys. The Blue and yellows were rather noisy and they had to go when the next door neighbours complained to the Environmental Health department about the noise. Thankfully, those neighbours have moved away and our new neighbours like the parrots. The red and green macaws bred for the first time in 2000 when Millennium bird, Boris hatched.
